On the move
Again we had to dig deep after injuries, holidays and sickness took its toll for the fourth week in a row. We had to move players around, playing them out of position and in the first ten minutes and it showed. We were all over the place and if it wasn’t for Paley in goal we could have conceded in the first 2 minutes. He couldn’t do anything about the first goal after just when Miller burst through from midfield without his marker, then cut inside the full back easily and slot the ball past Paley. (0-1 after 5 minutes)
The pack had to be shuffled around to steady the boat and gradually we got back into the game. The Bees missed chance after chance to level, but a combination of bad luck and poor finishing kept the score at 1-0.
Shaun Doyle had to come on for his brother after 35 minutes when Martin was knocked clean out after banging his head on the ground. We got our deserved equalizer from Doyle who had only been on 5 minutes. (1-1 after 40 minutes)
The second remained in the same vein, the Bees missing chances and it came back to haunt us after yet more very poor marking let in Haynes to give Greenwood the lead. (1-2 after 55 minutes)
We leveled the game when fullback Jaime Hawkins Struck on the far post after earlier striking a thunder bolt against the cross bar. (2-2 after 70 minutes)
Sub Doyle had to be replaced after 80 minutes with bad cramp with the man from Greece Karaqe. We lost our shape quite a bit but really should have finished the game off when the other full back Hassall had a wide open goal, but managed to crack the ball against the upright from just four yards.
Put our chances away and we really should have hit five.

30/11/08 - Matrix 0, Bulwell 3....
Matrixgrade 0, Bulwell 3
Goal Scorers - (B) Danny Gee, Jay Knight, Daniel Spencer
Ref - G Stuart 10/10

Santa comes early
The bees gifted Bulwell 3 easy goals and missed 3 themselves. The room we gave a very good Bulwell side was nothing short of criminal. Matrix needed time to settle down with three changes to the back 4 but Bulwell was not prepared to give any presents away this Xmas. Just 7 minutes gone and Gee found himself unmarked inside the 18 yard box. Three Bees watched from close range while Gee put the ball away with ease. (1-0 after 7 minutes)
We began to settle down a little for the rest of the half but still we was not tight enough in the midfield. The half stayed the same score, with hopes we could get a little tighter in the second period
We shot ourselves in the foot again early into the second half when Knight found himself unmarked on the edge of the box. He hit the top corner without any threat from any matrix player. (2-0 after 52 minutes)
Matrix kept plugging away and missed three or four glorious chances to get back in the game but lacked a little confidence in front of goal. The game was stitched up when the left side was left wide open for Spencer to nip in unopposed and slip the ball under depute goalie Brown. (3-0 after 80 minutes)
It does not matter what team we play in this league lads, if we give 75% of our passing to the opposition and don’t get tight on your opponents then we will win nothing.
Take a lesson and learn.

30/11/08 - It’s a rout! and led by mon Capitaine....
Matrixgrade 7, Bilborough Town 2
Goal Scorers - (M) L Farmery (3), M Doyle (2), W Savage(1), J Buck(1)
Z Wallace (1), T Faulkner (1)
Man of the match - ?
Ref - Derek Brampton 10/10

Captain leads the rout
The goals started as early as the 4th minute and carried on right to the end. Captain Farmery led the way with a hat-trick, his first goals since October. Despite the 7 goals, the finishing was at times quite poor, we really should have been in double figures.
The Bees got themselves off to a great start when the ever improving Smith broke out of defence, beat two players and laid off a beauty of a pass to find Doyle who made no mistake finding the bottom corner. (1-0 after 4 minutes)
Two glaring misses from Witherington and then Savage within minutes of each other really should have increased our lead but somehow they both managed to miss the target from close range. Savage made up for his miss soon after, when he sent a low shot from 20 yards through a pack of players and into the bottom corner. (2-0 after 20 minutes)
Farmery got his first goal hitting the top corner from twelve yards out. (3-0 after 26 minutes).
Bilborough kept going and got themselves a free kick 25 yards out. Wallace beat a sloppy defence to the ball looping a header over Palethorpe. (3-1 30 after minutes).
Farmery got his second just before half time after a goal mouth scramble. (4-1 after 44 minutes)
We continued to miss open goals early in the second half until Doyle got his second with an easy tap in after the Bilborough defence allowed a pass to bounce over their heads. (5-1 after 66 minutes).
Buck came off the bench for the tired Witherington who had worked his socks off but was unable to hit the net. Young Buck had been out for 4 weeks injured but showed some good feet to finish off a good 4 man move from the Bees. (6-1 after 72 minutes)
Farmery finished his hat-trick after a great cross from the hard working Waite was headed home easily.(7-1 after 85 minutes)
The bees conceded a late goal from another header, yet again poor defending from a set piece. (7-2 after 89 minutes)

23/11/08 - Win on the field, loss in the changing rooms ....scum!!
Matrixgrade 3, Boots Res. 1
Goal Scorers - (M) N Waite, C Mcmorron, W Savage
 (B) G Reece
Man of the match - Craig McMorron
Ref - D Ilmilta 4/10

Highs and lows
A very good game of footie was spoiled by a very poor ref and then getting back to our dressing rooms at the end of the game to find our personal belongings had been stolen by filth and lowlife. Wallets, mobiles, cash and a players car.
I can’t believe at this standard we are still attending grounds without proper security. How much does a few locks cost? The people who own these grounds are always ready to take money from you for rent, its time you put pressure on them to spend some of their profits on security. enough is enough.
The game itself went to plan for us in the first half. New boy Savage broke his duck for the Bees after a great pass from Macca found him 12 yards out which he slotted home coolly in the bottom corner. (1-0 after 10 minutes)
Just a short time later, we had doubled our score from Waite. After the ball bouncing around the goal area Waite sent in a low shot past Edwards. (2-0 after 20 minutes).
The Bees took their foot off the pedal slightly for the rest of the half and the game died off a little from our point of view. Both teams hadn’t got a clue what was going on with the ref as he was making some very very very strange decisions. The ref carried on in the same vein for a while and in fact might have got worse.
It seemed to affect us badly as our game deteriorated and Boots saw a lot of possession pressing for a goal. Their work rate paid off late on when they won themselves a free kick on the edge of the box. The kick was taken but should not have bothered us as it was hit along the floor straight at the wall. The wall made it that much easier by jumping over the ball allowing a free entry into the bottom corner. (2-1 after 78 minutes)
Boots altered the formation by sending an extra man up front but was hit on the break by an absolute beauty from man of the match Macca finding the top corner giving Edwards no chance. (3-1 after 93 minutes)
The game finished after 100 minutes....[dont know why]?

09/11/08 - Basford Utd reserves cash in on goal drought
Matrixgrade 0, Basford Utd Res. 1
Goal Scorers - (B) Kieran edwards
Man of the match - Wayne Savage
Ref - Roger Beardsley

Goal drought continues
Two weeks on the trot and yet another powder puff performance from the Bees.
This really is not good enough from a Matrixgrade team who although the forward line was missing, are not doing on a Sat what we are doing on the training ground mid week. Our two new boys Wayne Prehn and Wayne Savage did well, Wayne did especially well on his debut earning himself m.o.m.
Basford created most of the chances in the first half but were unable to finish off some very good moves, made that much easier by a very square back line. The goal came in the 35th min when a Basford player blatantly brought the ball down with his hand, everybody stopped waiting for the whistle but to everybody’s amazement the ref carried on....Edwards crashed an unstoppable shot past Palethorpe. (0-1 after 35 minutes)
Basford continued to press for the second goal in the second half and but for some poor finishing they could have sewn up this game a lot earlier. The Bees on the other hand saw plenty of ball but for some unknown reason kept giving it back to Basford.
New boy Prehn aggravated an old injury and had to be replaced by Jamie Hawkins who through holidays and other commitments hasn’t been able to get a decent run in the side of late. Hopefully he can knuckle down and get his game back on track. Laws and Waite came on for the last third but apart from a frantic last 5 minutes Basford defended well to keep us out and earn themselves 3 points.
See you Tuesday boys.

26/10/08 - Macca kept us warm on a cold and windy day
Matrixgrade 3, Cotgrave 0
Goal Scorers - (M) Craig McMorran 2, J Buck 1
Man of the match - Craig McMorran
Ref - Roger Beardsley

Macca too hot
It was very cold and windy down at the hive but Macca was on fire. He got himself a brace, set the other goal up and capped it off with man of the match. Well done!
Cotgrave are a very good club run by good management - a young side that can only get better. We had to work very hard to keep on top of the game, especially at the back who did a sterling job. It was Macca who calmed things down a little when he cut in from an acute angle finishing superbly past Cowie. (1-0 after 10 minutes)
Just two minutes later and Bucko could have doubled the score but his shot went to the gods. Macca had a glorious chance just a few mins later but he too missed from up close. These two made up for their misses when they combined really well, Macca with some great footwork to set up Bucko who made no mistake to take us into half time(2-0 after 38 minutes).
The second half was a bit like the first, spoilt by the wind and some very strange refereeing [again]. We should have had two pens clear cut but the ref gave nothing?. Our midfield was very poor today but with a touch better finishing and sharper refereeing we could have finished the game with a few more goals.
Macca finished off his fine performance with a cracker to seal the points for the Bees.(3-0 after 75 minutes)
Well done boys!!

16/10/08 - Just one point from Sandhurst
Matrixgrade 1, Sandhurst 1
Goal Scorers - (M) G Witherington, L (S) Gaz Masom
Man of the match - Craig McMorran

All square
All was set for a decent game up at Sandhurst but was spoilt by a very nervous referee. He gave some very strange decisions early on confusing both teams.
The Bees looked a bit edgy for the first 15 but gradually ground their way back into the game. We started to apply pressure and got the goal we deserved from our top goalscorer Greg [foxy] Witherington. (1-0 after 25 minutes)Just after that Sandhurst lost their center half with a dislocated shoulder and the game was held up for a while to arrange for an ambulance. Both teams were competing for everything when the referee decided to call a halt to things and go back to the changing rooms.
Both managers thought the game had been abandoned on 35 minutes. Both managers went in to see Mr Turner who at first did not want to restart the game but common sense prevailed and it was agreed to continue the match
Sandhurst came out the second period looking very sharp and caused the Bees a few problems, but they kept at it, working hard and gradually stablised. themselves Everything was going fine until 15 minutes from the end when a lack of discipline from the back left us open to a counter attack after losing possession from a corner, . Gaz Mason took his chance well. (1-1 after 85 minutes)
With just 5 minutes to go the bees had a glorious chance to win the game when m.o.m Macca was sent through one on one with the keeper but skied the shot. Both teams had chances to win the game but a draw was a fair result. A little more control and discipline in certain areas and we can start challenging .
Well done boys.....lets see you all buzzing at training!!!!

06/10/08 - Matrix vs Underwood Villa 3-0
Matrixgrade 3, Underwood Villa 0

Man of the match - Craig McMorran
Referee - D Helm (10/10)

James books his place
New signing young James Buck starts his debut on a high. Bucko got straight into the game, never looking out of place, scoring a great goal straight off the training field and then being brought down for a penalty.
The game was difficult today with the high winds ripping around the Hive but the bees coped really well in the first half. We were playing against the wind and were very unlucky not to go in at the interval one or two up. Underwood turned up with a very young side and saw plenty of possession but apart from one save Palethorpe had very little to do.
The Bees looked even stronger in the second period with the wind behind us. Mark was just about redundant in goal. Still the opposition fought to keep us out and it took a great goal to break the deadlock. A fantastic through ball from the General to Bucko who without thinking, Hit the ball first time giving the keeper no chance in the bottom corner. (1-0 after 65 minutes)
Bucko, McMorran & Captain Farmery were starting to look very dangerous in the middle. Changes were made down one of the flanks and its from this we got our next goal. Woody cruised down the left with ease leaving two defenders in his wake and then crossed a beauty to Bucko who in turn rounded his marker but was brought down for a definite penalty. After 5 weeks out through suspension captain Farmery took the kick leaving their keeper no chance. (2-0 after 72 minutes)
More was to come as McMorran left defenders for dead capping off a great all round performance and well deserved man of the match. (3-0 after 82 minutes).
Well done to everyone who kept their shape and discipline for the 90 minutes.

No sting in the Bees
An absolute shambles. The defense was the worst performance we’ve witnessed for years. The keeper had a howler, the defense was square, static and far too quiet. The midfield was all over the place allowing Gedling an easy passage.
Gedling showed how it should be played, they passed the ball well, their movement was good, they defended in numbers and their front men held the ball up really well - their finishing spot on.
Well done

Fox in the box
Foxy Witherington started the game as he left off mid week, causing problems in and around the oppositions box. Mcmorron who covered as much ground as Foxy also created the same problems for Clifton and these two are really beginning to strike up a pretty good partnership.
Foxy scored after easily slipping the ball under the keeper to start the rout. (0-1 after 10 minutes)
He was at it again when a beautiful pass from pop Ramsey found Foxy to slot home after going around the keeper. (0-2 after 15 minutes).
Woody got himself a nose bleed when he found himself in the opposition area, he crossed a great ball for Farmery whose header was saved but only managed to parry out to sniffer Doyle, for his third goal in two games.(0-3 after 35 minutes). Chance after chance was created in the first half but the score remained at three as the half time whistle blew.
The first 15 of the second started more or less in the same vein with Foxy shooting over from close and then Doyle missing an open goal after a pin point cross from Hassall. It was Hassall who started the scoring again with a fine cross which found Doyle. He unselfishly headed the ball down to Macca, who dribbled around a defender and then the keeper to finish with a slot into an empty net. (0-4 after 61 minutes).
Just a few mins later and Foxy was at it again, taking the ball around two players, then going 1 on 1 with the stopper but was blatantly flattened for a definite pen. The keeper was sent off and Captain Farmery slotted home. (0-5 after 65 minutes)
Laws came on for the final 15 and almost immediately made an impact. He got himself a free kick 30 yards out finding that man Foxy again to slot home from 6 yards, completing his well deserved hat-trick. (0-6 after 86 minutes)
Macca finished off the rout latching on to a long ball and dancing round the standing keeper. (0-7 after 89 minutes)
Macca then completed his hat-trick when a great thru ball from Rammer found him and he took the ball around two players before slotting past the keeper. (0-8 92 minutes).
Clifton have some very talented players who are young but very enthusiastic and I am sure if they stick together will produce some interesting results and surprise a few teams.

Half and half
Average first half followed by a very poor second. We looked pretty lively in the early stages, the busy bee Macca found himself 1 on 1 but their keeper managed to parry the shot away from goal. The ball fell to Doyle but all he could manage was to shoot wide. The Bees kept pressing and got our reward when Witherington dribbled his way into the six yard box and crossed for captain Farmery to volley home. 1-0 (10 minutes)
Just five minutes later and the same two were at it again this time Farmery supplying Witherington who headed wide from close range. Cotgrave enjoyed a fair bit of possession over the next 15 minutes but didn’t really cause us too much goal mouth pressure. Any nerves were settled when again Witherington crossed for Doyle who neatly finish. 2-0 (37 minutes)
The bees extended their lead with some great play by Macca supplying the ball for Witherington to volley home a rocket. (3-0 half time)
Cotgrave came out in the second period determined to give us a game. It wasn’t long before they got one back when Plummer burst through a none existent midfield and straight through a hapless flat back line to find himself one on one with our keeper Hames who brought him down for a definite penalty. Plummer took the kick smashing the ball in the top corner. 3-1 (50 minutes)
Poor midfield work and poor defending gave them chance after chance. Plummer again found himself on his own 25 yards out and let rip with a thunderbolt which flew into the top corner. 3-2 (65 minutes)
A rare break away calmed the nerves a bit with Doyle finishing calmly from ten yards . 4-2 (70 minutes)
Cotgrave continued to press and got themselves another goal 4-3(85 minutes)
NOT GOOD ENOUGH LADS, BUCK UP...............

03/08/08 - A very special presentation night
Matrixgrade FC celebrated their end of season presentation. It was a great night with only a few lads absent for personal reasons.
Our presentation kicked off at 9.30pm with manager Steve Farmery taking to the microphone, he was assisted by a very special guest, Brian Laws (Sheffield Wednesday manager). Brian was a pleasure to have at our presentation and along with Steve made a great double act.
2007/2008 was a great season for Matrixgrade FC for many reasons, here are just a few....
it was our first season at NSL level
we finished second and as a team we fought very hard
the season saw some great new signings for the club which were truly Matrix players and have set a good level for the coming season
we moved facilities from Annesley to Bilsthorpe sports ground – a fantastic opportunity for us with a great pitch and even better prospects for further development
A great season overall and 2008/2009 will only be better - bring it on!!!
Back to the awards evening. All the team did very well on their own merit but some special awards were given highlighting truly outstanding contributions.
Top goal scorer - Lee Farmery, Craig McMorran & Greg Witherington. Yes three players ended the season as top goal scorers, this has never been known for the Bees.
Player’s player – Ian Jackson
Manager’s player – Lee Farmery
John Farmery Award – For player awarded most MOM of 2007/08 – Craig McMorran
A very well done to each of you and fantastic acknowledgement of each if your individual qualities.
The presentation night was a Hollywood Oscars evening which saw each of the lads pull out their best suits and polish their shoes for one night only. The ladies brought the glam into the football club. There were awards for best dressed female, chosen by Lynn Farmery and Linda Kerry, wives of the manager and chairman.

02/08/08 - The website is back!!!!!
After laptop explosions, lost data, various recovery tools, two viruses, an argument with the web hosting company and a hell of a lot of effort, I am pleased to say “The website is back.”
I will be working over the next few weeks to bring everything up to speed including profiles, players, pictures etc...
I thank you all for your patience and hope you keep visiting, it’s not been the easiest to recover, but I hope you’ll agree, it was worth it - enjoy your website.

Even steven........
Both teams had opportunities to win the game but over 90 minutes I would say a draw is a fair result. Hucknall started off the better team keeping the bees busy all over the park. We soaked up the pressure and seemed to be doing well until a ball over the top caught our defence square, leaving smith no option but to bring down the striker for a definite pen. The ball was struck straight down the middle to give Hucknall the lead. (0-1 after 10 minutes)
As a team we were not keeping the ball well, but gradually we were seeing more and more action. This was coming mainly from individual efforts and it was one of these that brought about the equalizer. A good run down the right from the hard working Wilson left the Hucknall defence wide open. The cross came in with players waiting to put it away but the blues center half miss hit the clearance and found the back of the net to give the bees the equalizer. (1-1 after 25 minutes)
In the second half, both teams shared periods of ten minute spells but it was the bees who had the better chances. First Farmery found himself on his own in the box with just Waters to beat, but shot just wide of the post, then the ever dangerous Mcmorron had a great chance to seal it but he too missed the target.
The game could have gone either way, but well done to Hucknall for keeping their unbeaten run.

Ref has howler
We had 5 players missing tonight, but take nothing away from the kids at Cotgrave. They worked very hard and never stopped running at us. They topped a very good performance with 2 good goals, the other courtesy of a hand and some very poor refereeing. We got off to the perfect start, with some great individual work down the right from Willow who crossed to Farmery to smash home. (1-0 after 20 minutes)
The Bees then do what they do best …… gave the opposition a goal back. Although the goal was finished well the marking at the back was poor. (1-1 after 25 minutes)
The game was pretty even until their forward broke through and used his hand to bundle the ball over and to our disbelief the ref allowed it. It seems everybody on the park saw him handle the ball; even the ref saw it as he put his whistle to his mouth, but for some unknown reason did not blow. The players were obviously upset and went across to remonstrate with Mr Wooton. A few choice words were shared by everybody but it was our captain who was sent off for swearing.
I must say that during the whole game there was swearing from both sides and after all it is a mans game....or so they say. (2-1 after 38 minutes)
Matrix regrouped, doing very well and gradually got back on top of the game. We had quite a few chances before Mcmorron evened things up with a cracking finish (2-2 after 65 minutes).
Cotgrave got themselves a piece of luck when Ramsey half tackled their forward but the ball fell kindly for him and his finish was superb. (3-2 after 78 minutes).
We still had numerous chances to draw level but could not find the target. A good game spoilt by some poor refereeing.
Don’t forget - the Matrixgrade awards night has now changed venue..... we are now at the Wheatsheaf at Bobbers Mill!! Tickets are available now.

Rammerdan shines...
A good game played in the right spirit, refereed superbly by Mr Brown. Boots came to the Hive with plenty of men behind the ball. Probably to stop us playing, but also to protect their 200 year defence, who I thought had an outstanding game. Although Boots worked hard all the early chances fell to the Bees.
Boots held out until just before the break when Farmery scored his first goal in 2 months, which was helped a bit by some dodgy goalkeeping. (1-0 after 35 minutes)
The Bees came out in the second half looking sharp. Hassal switched from defence, for the tired looking Woody. We got our reward almost immediately when Hassall found the very busy Mcmorron who struck from a very tight angle giving the keeper no chance. (2-0 after 47 minutes)
The Bees had most of the game but it wasn’t until the last quarter when we got our just rewards. M.O.M Ramsey, who has been on the bench for 2 months, proved today that when his heads on, he can still do a job in Midfield. He picked up the ball just inside the halfway line, beat a player and smashed the ball from 30 yards giving Edwards no chance in the bottom corner, cracking goal. (3-0 Full time).
Well done lads!!! - don’t forget ticket money on Wednesday night.

Shaping up
For the first time in two months we were able to pick a team from an almost full squad. The shape and discipline was a lot better today but we still lacked the killer punch up front.
Borough worked very hard for the first 45 minutes and managed to keep our boys at bay, Ramsey came in today for his first game in the center midfield since August and looked like he was back to his old self. Jacko and Farmery were moved from the center mid, the Captain going to defence and Jacko out right - both doing a super job . (Half Time 0 - 0)
The second half started in the same vein, Matrix on top but still lacking the punch to up the final third. On 60 minutes changes were made, bringing on top goal scorer Witherington and Stevenson which gave us the breakthrough we were looking for. It wasn’t long before we broke their resolve and a great cross from the hard working Jacko found Smith who had made his way up from the back to give us a well deserved lead. (1-0 after 65 minutes).
With three forwards up front the Borough defence were under siege. Again, good work down the right from Jacko sent in a great delivery for Witherington who headed a great shot past the keeper but the ball hit the crossbar. He managed to pick up the rebound though and double our tally. (2-0 after 75 minutes)
A good all round team performance, consistency is what is needed - think about it lads.

At last the Bees finished off their chances. We started the game with an attacking formation and made Magdala work overtime to keep up with us. To be fair to them they had a fair share of the ball and for the first 20 minutes gave us a hard game. We thought we had took the lead in the 20th minute through Willow but the referee blew for offside. Just a few minutes later Willow gave us the lead after some great work from Macca and Woody. (1-0 after 24 minutes)
Matrix and the crowd were stunned into silence when Magdala, after just one minute, went up the other end and leveled (1-1 after 25 minutes).
Although Magdala fought very hard, all the chances were falling to the Bees. and it was Macca who found the net just before half time to give the Bees a deserved lead going into the break (2-1 after 43 minutes).
It was all Matrix in the second period pushing and squeezing Magdala all the way. Woody, who is gradually getting back to his best, had an excellent game with two assists and capped his performance off with a fine goal (3-1 after 55 minutes)
Another player who got it right today was Smith, who got himself sent off last week but had his head on today. He never put a foot wrong and he too capped a good game with a brave header to get our fourth (4-1 after 65 minutes).
Carruthers came on for the last 25 for Willow piling even more pressure on the opposition. He got himself on the score sheet with a fantastic shot from the edge of the box, giving the keeper no chance (5-1 after 75 minutes).
The team was now rampant and although the team played well a special mention must go out to Stevo who didn’t score, but led the line very well up front giving us a super display. Macca capped off yet another Man Of the Match performance with a great goal with ten minutes left (6-1 after 8- minutes).
Just 5 minutes later and Carruthers got his second, pushing the Bees to 7 oerall and rounded off a great team performance.
Well done all!!
Next game - Wed 9th 6 o’clock kick off at Birchover Park, Bilborough.

02/04/08 - A knock out game, but not for the finishing.....
Matrixgrade 1, Carribean Cavaliers 1
Goal Scorers - (M) C Wilson
Man of the match - Craig McMorron

Poor, poor finishing......
This game should have bean rapped up by half time, but chance after chance was missed. Five players out made no difference as the Bees created openings, but time and again fluffed in front of goal. (0-0 at half time)
Things got worse early into the second half when Smith got his marching orders for a second yellow. We seemed to come alive a little playing with ten men and sure enough we got what we deserved, when Wilson (back from a 2 month lay off) volleyed a thunderbolt in the top corner . (0 -1 65 after minutes).
Within minutes the Cavaliers who had worked their socks off leveled. Matrixgrade had no less than four chances to clear the ball, but poor defending allowed the Cavaliers to put the ball in the net. (1 -1 after 70 minutes).
Things took a turn for the worse when skipper Farmery was knocked out for a few seconds, but with a combination of smelling salts and true grit he was able to carry on. Just five minutes later Lee was in the wars again with a clash of heads. This time he had to go off with a split head wound (photo to follow). We still had chances to grab the points but again poor finishing let us down.
There’s still plenty of matches left to show the form and determination seen at the beginning of the season. Let’s get back on it Bees and win, win, win!!

23/03/08 - A windy day out at Clifton
Matrixgrade 1, Clifton 2
Goal Scorers - (M) C Mcmorron
         (C) C Thomas, D Casey
Man of the match - Steve Carruthers
Referee - L Jones

Bees blown away......
The wind decided how this games was to be played today and both teams found it difficult to play an decent football. The Bees got off to a great start when McMorron did a super solo run, taking the ball around the keeper and slotting home his 11th of the season. (1-0 after 8 minutes)
Matrix were finding it difficult to pass or hold on to the ball. We made a mess to give Cliftons equalizer after failing miserably on three attempts to clear the ball, giving them a goal on a plate. (1-1 after 9 minutes).
Any chance of playing any decent footie was also spoilt by some very strange decisions by the ref:
A shot was blatantly handled inside the area right in front of the ref and he gave nothing
we found ourselves 1 on 1 but he blew for offside with 2 players keeping us on by at least 5 yards not even their lino flagged.
Apart from hitting the crossbar we never looked like scoring .We thought things couldn’t get worse, but we were wrong. The defense looked shaky, midfield couldn’t string two passes together and apart from Macca, our forward play was awful.
Clifton played slightly better after making a couple of changes but the game looked like it was heading for a draw until late on when a big hole appeared in the center of defense leaving three players unmarked. Thomas tucking away an easy chance to steal all three points. (2 -1 after 83 minutes)

16/03/08 - Chances missed and stung for it
Matrixgrade 0, Basford Reserves 1
Goal Scorers - (M) Own goals
Man of the match - Steve Carruthers
Referee - Alan Zarbeskii

Poor finishing....
The Bees did everything right today apart from score. The defence was tight, the midfield strong but the forward play was awful. Even though we played it tight, the first half chances still fell to us.
Witherington found himself one on one with the keeper but saved his effort, Farmery missed from close range and Woody 1 on 1 shot straight at the keeper. Another day all these chances would be put away.
The second half we played with an extra forward, putting even more pressure on but still couldn’t hit the back of the net. Good handling from Palethorpe for Basford kept the Bees at bay and managed to block two more one on ones from Witherington .
As happens with all standards of football if you don’t take your chances the opposition will sting you. This happened today when substitute Marcus Hall sent over a harmless looking low cross. In trying to clear the ball our defender hit the ball against our keepers head giving Basford all 3 points. (0-1 after 83 minutes)

12/03/08 - A windy winner for the Bees
Matrixgrade 3, Cotgrave 0
Goal Scorers - (M) Lee Farmery, Martin Doyle, Craig McMorron
Man of the match - Craig McMorron
Referee - Chris Evansi

Windy at the Hive.....
Both teams performed well in very poor conditions. The wind almost reached gale force at times but the teams battled on and at times played some decent football. The games was ref’d well from Chris Evans which ultimately showed the Bees as a little too strong and experienced for the opposition.
Matrix played without their strike force for the third week running and again were forced to shuffle the pack but the lads did well. This week Captain Farmery partnered Macca who’s proving to be dangerous in the middle as well as up front. Cotgrave defended well with plenty of body’s behind the ball but were unable to stop Farmery getting his 13th of the season. (1-0 after 20 minutes)
By the second period the Bees were totally in charge. Early in the second half Macca ripped open the defence and crossed the ball for new boy sniffer Doyle to finish easily. (2-0 after 50 minutes)
McMorron capped off another fine performance with a great solo goal, rounding the keeper to slot home his tenth of the season (3-0 after 63 minutes).
Well done to everyone, including a very strong bench who all did well when coming on - Same again next week please.

06/03/08 - Maccattack and some new Bees join the hive
Matrixgrade 2, Gedling/Southbank2
Goal Scorers - (M) M. Doyle & C McMorron
       (H) ?
Man of the match - Craig McMorron
Referee - Alan Zarbeski

MACCA delivers
Poor defending again allowed Southbank take the lead early on. Poncing about on the ball when it was easier to clear allowed their forward an easy chance to score 0-1 (after 20 minutes).
Poor finishing was also the order of the day, when chance after chance went begging. New signing Doyle made his debut this week and showed a good account of himself. In fact it was Martin Doyle who brought the score level scraping the ball over the line from close range. 1-1 (After 40 minutes)
The team played a little better in the second period but the defence still looked vulnerable under attack. The final 20 minutes saw the best from the Bees as they got their passing together. Some good work from Farmery and the General inside the oppositions box, battling it out against 4 defenders to win the ball. On the edge of the melee McMorron was lurking and he coolly took the ball around the oncoming defender, rifled an unstoppable shot into the top corner for the winner and to cap off a man of the match performance.
Another new signing Mark Palmer is looking for a spot in the center of midfield and showed this week what he’s capable of, after coming on for the last 20 minutes. He has played at various clubs to a high standard the latest being Greenwood Meadows where he spent a couple of years and had some good seasons.
Our second signing Martin Doyle comes to us from Radford FC in the centre of midlands and has his own share of experience playing at similarly high standard of football.
Welcome to the Bees lads, good to have you!!!!

25/02/08 - Senior cup and a bit more madness!
Matrixgrade 1, Hucknall Rolls 2
Goal Scorers - (M) G. Witherington
       (H) Wass & Hodgeson
Man of the match - General Jackson
Referee - Andy Rolph 10/ 10
Line - Dave Hague/Mike Warren 10 / 10

BEES LET DOWN
The bees seam intent on shooting themselves in the foot when yet again a gift and a moment of madness left us to battle out this cup tie for 40 minutes with 10 men.
It all started so well when top scorer Witherington got us off to a great start, after muscling his way round 2 defenders and slotting the ball past the oncoming Waters. (1-0 after 5 minutes)
The lead wasn’t to last though, as rolls leveled just 6 minutes later through Wass. (1-1 after 11 minutes)..
Hucknall pressed and had it not been for some heroics from our stopper Sinbad they could have taken the lead. The team defended well all round and were gradually getting hold of the game, when a simple long ball was not cleared by our sweeper and Hodgeson gratefully slotted home . (2-1 after 35 minutes)
The second half started fairly even with both sides seeing plenty of ball. Early into the second half a free kick was awarded to Rolls and what followed can only be described as an immature outburst from a senior player. The outburst was directed at Mr Rolph (ref) leaving him no option but to give a straight red card. This left the players mates to soldier on with ten men.
The formation had to be changed and the ten men showed real character and determination but still could not find the equalizer. Kosar was brought on in the last 15 as an extra forward leaving a few openings for Rolls to exploit but they failed to rap it up heading wide from close range. The best chance fell to the bees when some great work from Macca found Kosar unmarked standing 6 inch from the line but somehow managed to miss.
Well done to the ten men, who knows what would have happened had we kept the full team on.

17/02/08 - Stuck in the mud till the cows came home
Matrixgrade 3, Underwood 3
Goal Scorers - (M) Mcmorron, Jackson & Farmery
  (U) Dainty, Niblett & Beer
Man of the match - Steve Carruthers

A draw.....…in mud
This has got to be the worst pitch I’ve seen in 30 years, including Sundays. When we arrived I think the cows had just left.
The home side adapted to the conditions best, probably because they are used to playing on such a poor surface. Underwood had plenty of possession, but Matrix coped well considering the conditions. It was the Bees who broke the deadlock when Witherington headed on a long pass to Willow who in turn headed on to a great run from Macca who found the net with clinical efficiency. (1-0 after 15 minutes). Mistakes were being made all over the pitch but the one made at the back gifted Underwood the equalizer. (1–1 after 25 minutes)

Half time 1 - 1
The second half started more or less in the same vein with both sides trying to play football on a very poor pitch. The Bees were very unlucky to concede a penalty, when players were sliding allover the place trying to deal with the conditions. Sinbad was very close to saving the penalty but his feet got stuck in the mud!! (2–1 after 60 minutes). The bees pushed for the equalizer and it came from the very consistent general Jackson, for his first of the season (2–2 after 80 minutes). With just minutes to go Underwood launched a very good attack which led to their third goal (3–2 after 85 minutes).
The Bees didn’t give up and in the dying minutes Smith volleyed a cross from Hassall which their keeper some how managed to palm out, but Smith was there again to head the ball to the dangerous Farmery who finished easily (3–3 after 90 minutes).
The ref added 4 minutes on and had it not been for a couple of great saves from King the Bees could have taken all the points. Good game for the neutrals.

10/02/08 - Matrix 1, Hucknall Rolls 3 - Marshall stings
Matrixgrade 1, Hucknall Rolls Leisure 3
Goal Scorers - Carl Wilson (M), Ashley Marshall (R)
Man of the match - Steve Carruthers
Referee: Des Brown 10/10

Our defence was not at the races today. They were disjointed, showing no shape, positioning was poor and individual mistakes all contributed to our downfall. Hucknall could have taken the lead in the first 15 minutes on a couple of occasions but a combination of poor finishing and good goal keeping kept the score level.
Rolls kept up the pressure and after 20 minutes Marshall found himself unmarked on the edge of the 6 yard box, finding the bottom corner after a goal mouth scramble. (1-0 after 20 minutes)
The Bees gradually started to get to grips with the game, balancing it out slightly. Unfortunately, just before half time unlucky Smith, who has played well all season, had a straight forward pass to the keeper but slipped as he was about to make contact and the pass fell short leaving Marshall 1 on 1 with Sinbad, his finish was clinical. (0 – 2 after 44 minutes)
We came out in the second half in a better frame of mind and started to take the game to Rolls causing a few problems. On 60 minutes a midfielder was withdrawn for an extra forward which paid dividends when Wilson took on the back line by himself, including Waters in goal to get the Bees right back into the game. (2-1 after 73 minutes).
Matrix were back on top now but were still unable to cope too well with the long balls up to the very impressive Rolls pair up front. In midfield, we were on top with the General , Farmery and Mcmorron in control. The wide men were getting behind there defence and Wilson was holding up the ball really well up front. Stevo came on as a third out and out striker and did very well. Twice he found himself in front of goal with shooting opportunities but unselfishly squared the ball across the box, but was cleared by a very busy rolls defence.
With full time looming and the Bees pushing for the equalizer, the ball was pumped up front again catching our defence square. This left Marshall one on one with Sinbad, who had started to come off his line before realizing he was not going to make it. Marshall finished coolly, lobbing Sinbad and sealing the points. (1 – 3 after 90 minutes)

07/01/08 - Waite’ing game......
Matrixgrade 2, Sandhurst 1
Goal Scorers - (M) Carl Wilson & Nick Waite
(S) W. Stark
Man of the match - General Jackson

Work commitments forced the bees into a change of formation, which the lads adapted to very well. I thought we played some decent football in the first half and really should have gone into the break 2-0 up. Two glaring misses from our centre forward Wilson helped keep this game in the balance. Sandhurst saw a lot of ball but apart from a long range shot, which the cat Sinbad saved easily they never really penetrated our back line too much. I thought the back line coped very well, with veteran Hamilton and Smith, with his first start for a month looked like they had played together all season. Half time 0-0.
Sandhurst came out the second half with a spring in their heels and were really determined to get something out of this game. Their forwards Stark and Mills worked very well together the whole game and for 20 minutes Sandhurst took control of the game. They took the lead through Stark 10 minutes into the second half.
We brought on Waite to change the formation which paid dividends immediately. We took control of the game and it wasn’t long before we hit the equalizer. It was Waite impact on the game and it was he who sent a great through ball for Wilson to lob the oncoming Smith and level the score. 1-1 after 70 minutes.
The Bees continued to turn the screw and although he had only been on 15 minutes. Waite hit a glorious winner into the bottom corner rounding off a very good performance. 2-1 after 80 minutes. After hitting the headlines last week with a cracking goal, Turkish delight Kosar lost his cool towards the end of the game getting himself a red card.
This week I’m afraid it’s got to be turkey (off with his head).

12/01/08 - Magic from the Ozzmeister
Matrixgrade 4, Boots Athletic 0
Goal Scorers - Lee Farmery, Ossie Kozar, Carl Wilson & Greg Witherington
Man of the match - Nick Waite

Any team would be pleased with a 4-0 win but I must say, I thought the finishing was poor as this game should have finished 8-0. We really do have to concentrate on our finishing if we are to compete for the title.
Getting away from the negatives we still did enough to deserve the points. A fine display from Wilson who made his first start for the bees with a steady performance and a good goal after finding himself one on one with the keeper (1- 0 after 15 minutes). Clifton kept at it and won themselves a penalty when part of our defence went to sleep. We ended up having to chase the player down catching his ankles for a definite penalty. A combination of good goal keeping and a lackluster penalty, prevented Clifton levelling.
The bees continued the pressure and sure enough we won a free kick just on the 18 yard box. Captain Farmery stepped up to dispatch a trademark free kick to double the score. (2-0 after 28 minutes).
Shortly after, hard working midfielder Kosar came up with the goal of the game lobbing the keeper after a great run, beating 3 players giving us some of the Turkish magic what we all know Ossie is capable of (3-0 after 35 minutes).
The impressive Wilson broke through again but was blatantly fouled by the keeper after taking the ball around him which only earned him a yellow. Strange.
The second half continued in the same vein with shots flying high and wide. We had three more one on ones but again poor finishing and control prevented us from increasing our tally. Changes were made when Hassall came on for Ramsey and Holmes came on for the injured Carruthers. Clifton never threw in the towel but the Bees kept up the pressure and again, good work down the right from Kosar sent in a pinpoint cross to find leading scorer Witherington to head an unstoppable shot to seal the points. (4-0 after 72 mins)

07/01/08 - New year, New win!!!
Matrixgrade - 3, Boots Athletic 2
Goal Scorers - Craig McMorron & Steve Carruthers
Man of the match - Steve Carruthers

4 players missing didn’t make too much difference to our challenge for the title. We couldn’t have had a better start when after just 5 minutes, a cross from defender Stevenson was pulled out of the air. A piece of outstanding skill, by the one and only McMorron gave his team the lead coolly for a great start to the game.
The bees should have built on this with Macca missing two guilt edged chances to increase our lead and the missed chances proved costly as boots kept at it and got the equalizer through Bradley after 15 minutes.
The Bees dug in on a very small and boggy pitch and all the work paid off when defender and man of the match Carruthers slammed in a loose ball from inside the 6 yard box giving us the lead after 30 minutes.
Boots gradually started to turn the screw and take the game to the Bees. Sinbad made a couple of great saves to keep us in front but just before half time Boots got their deserved equalizer. Ths was partly due to some poor defending in the 18 yard box, and the very impressive Captain Steve Hatherly found himself unmarked 12yards out, 2-2 after 40 minutes taking us to half time.
We looked a lot stronger in the second half, without really penetrating the boots defence. Players tired in the mud and conditions so changes were made. Notably McMorran switching from up front to the midfield gave the bees more penetration through the midfield. Subs Woody, Hassall and Wilson made a big difference down the flanks and up front. The hard work and changes gave matrix the lead and winner in the last quarter when Macca cottoned on to a loose ball on the edge of the 18 yard box. This gave him his second of the game and rounded off another impressive game. There are some weeks you have to grind out results this being one of them.
Well done to everybody at Matrix today. You deserved the points - see you all at training.

02/01/08 - Wet and windy, but another win for the Bees
Matrixgrade - 2, Keyworth - 0,
Goal Scorers - Greg Witherington & Lee Farmery
Man of the match - Craig McMorron

Let’s start by setting the scene - the game was spoilt by high winds, cold weather and rain
Keyworth came to the Hive to get something out of this game and although they saw plenty of the ball, they never really managed to penetrate our defence. The midfield was marshaled well by General Jackson who never put a foot wrong the whole game. Making his debut in the middle for the first time this year was Mcmorran who had a great game, standing out from the rest and winning himself man of the match. Up front top goal scorer Witherington and Carruthers worked very hard together but never really clicked. It looked like both sides was going into the break even until one moment of magic from our Captain Farmery. He received the ball 20 yards out with his back to goal, turned, hit the ball and found the top corner after 44 minutes

Half time score 1-0

Keyworth came out to the second half giving it a good go, but were again unable to penetrate our defence (Stevenson, Smith , Ramsey and Sinbad) who all had a solid game at the back.
Matrix were getting more and more chances as the game wore on and after 60 mins Witherington got a well deserved goal after working very hard for his team. Subs Hassall and Woody were brought on for the last 20 and livened things up. We got behind their defence on numerous occasions but lacked the final killer pass to add to the scoreline. The game ended with 10 men when Kosar had to be stretched off with a broken toe nail in the last 5 Minutes.
Well done lads - 3 good points in poor conditions!!!
Full time score 2-0
