2007 - News history

23/12/07 - It’s Christmas and it’s been a good year!!
Wollaton - 0, Matrixgrade - 1
Goal Scorer - Sean Holmes
Man of the match - Jaimie Laws
Christmas turnout poor, but spirit is high
With six players missing, Wollaton must have thought Santa had come early. Three defenders, two midfielders and our top goal scorer out this game, it was always going to be difficult. However, what we lacked in numbers we made up for in character - something Matrixgrade have in abundance .
The spirit starts at the core of the team with our captain and Assistant Manager Lee Farmery. This is a man who never gives up; he works for the team 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, working with the management to find the right sort of players with the spirit that suits our team. We have nurtured players in the last few years who came here with bags of experience, but have added the Matrix spirit which has made the core of the side very strong .

Players like....

Andy Ramsey, who came here from higher leagues but has never thought he was better than anybody else in the team. In fact he has used that experience to help the rest of the team.
Ossie Kosar who has only been here for a few seasons but what a player to have. He too has turned into the sort of player we need at Matrix, who loves the club and works 24/7, looking for players and helping with the running of the club.
Sammy Hamilton - Mr Matrixgrade, who has been with us since the late eighties. He is yet another player who loves the club and would not even think of going anywhere else. Once a Matrixgrade player, always a Matrixgrade player.
Sean Holmes, although not 90 minutes fit, ran his socks off down the left and even managed to get us the winner, 15 minutes from the end. Just excellent.
Greg Witherington, who came here from a high standard in the West Midlands works his balls off every game he has played for the bees. He is strong, honest, leads the line well up front and hits double figures each year he has played.
Nick Waite, a couple of years ago, we could see plenty of skill but he didn’t have the matrix spirit. Towards the end of last year he stuck at it and gradually in came the spirit. This year its there for all to see
Adam Stevenson is what matrix is all about. Another player who will never give up takes no prisoners in defense, needed on the field and in the dressing room..
Woody is one of our favorite players and when he stops listening to the wrong people he will become an awesome player.
This year we have also signed 7 quality players who have formed the backbone of the side. ..
Wayne Atkin took over in goal and brought with him vast experience. He is a winner and a fantastic shot stopper, the sort of player we need at Matrix.
Terry Smith oozes the spirit we need and leads by example. He played this Saturday with one leg - True grit.
In front of Tez is our general Jacko who works his socks off in midfield our our man of the match every week.
Stig is a fantastic player who has played at all the big clubs and brings with him a wealth of experience but just needs a little more commitment to help our club challenge for the title.
Jordan joined us mid way through the season from Loughborough and is a very good player indeed. We are sure the longer he stays the better he will get.
Craig who came at he same time as Jordan just has bags of skill and two great feet. He has made a big difference up front and struck up a very good partnership with Greg.
Our latest signing Jaimie Laws has only had one full game but has showed he is more than capable of cementing his place in the side.
Our other signing Danny has yet to get a start as he hasn’t been able to commit every sat but has shown in training he’s got it.
A Fantastic performance on Saturday boys. It proves when your back is against the wall you have character. Lets build on it. IT STARTS AT TRAINING.
DON’T FORGET WE HAVE GAME ON 29th AND A MERRY XMAS TO YOU ALL!!!!

17/12/07 - Jaimie Law joins the Bees
Jaimie Laws joins the Bees this week, taking position in defence and midfield.
Jaimie has football in his blood as the son of Ex Forest player and now current manager of Sheffield Wednesday, Brian Laws.
Jaimie’s debut was last Saturday where he had a good run, being unlucky not to score.
Welcome to the Bees Jaimie - good to have you!!

12/12/07 - A RETRACTION and another win for the Bees
Matrixgrade FC 3 Sandhurst 1
Craig mc morran - 1
Lee farmery - 1 (Penalty)
1 Own goal
Man of the match - Craig Mcmorran (Now gold in standings)
Before we dive into the match report....in the news a few weeks ago we saw an exciting quote - “A FANTASTIC start to the game with Craig Mcmorran scoring after just 30 seconds!!! Craig now holds the record of the fastest goal scored for matrix.”.
Whilst the goal was indeed scored in just 30 seconds, alas for Craig, it was not him who scored it.
To ensure the rightful heir receives due praise - please all pay homage to the fastest goal scorer EVER for Matrixgrade FC.
Carl Woodward.

08/12/07 - Matrixgrade Colts are recruiting - can you fill a position?
The Matrixgrade Colts F.C. are currently looking for talented new players to join them in the Notts Youth League in all positions.

02/12/07 - Bees 7, Awsworth 0 - what a belter
Bees score 7 in rampant victory
Greg Witherington - 2
Craig McMorran - 2
Nick Waite - 1
Ossie Kosar - 1
Carl Woodward - 1
Man of the Match - Ian Jackson

A FANTASTIC start to the game with Craig Mcmorran scoring after just 30 seconds!!! Craig now holds the record of the fastest goal scored for matrix. The Bee’s were far too strong for the Awsworth side throughout the entire game - it was only a matter of time before the next goal was to follow and Greg Witherington made it 2-0. The points were just about safe when Carl Woodward scored his first of the season to make it 3-0 for half time.
Awsworth came out in the second half and gave it a good go, but were unable to stop the none stop attack from the Bees. Greg Witherington maintained the top goalscorer position by adding one more taking his tally to 12 now for the season. Not to be outdone, Craig Mcmorran made it 5-0 with a absolute beauty.
Ossie Kosar then hit a thunder bolt to make it 6-0 and to cap it off Nick Waite made a run from the halfway line and gave the goalie no chance with a belter. 7-0 from a good all-round performance, solid at the back, busy in the middle and the front two knew where the net was .
Well done boys - same again next week please!!

25/11/07 - Matrix 0, Bilborough 1, madness!!
With a few players out it was always going to be a tough game. The Bees defended quite well in the first half and really should have taken the lead when Ossie found himself unmarked, just 2 yards out. Somehow though he managed to direct his header wide of the goal giving Bilborough a lucky escape.
Within the first minute of the second half, we should have scored again through Macca, but he could not find the finish after doing really well to get himself one on one with the keeper.
The game looked certain for a draw until just 5 minutes from the end, when Bilborough got a free kick at 20 yards out. Sinbad set up a perfectly good wall of 5 players, but couldn’t account for 2 of the players ducking out of the way, allowing the ball to creep into the bottom corner.
It’s a pity 89 minutes of work was thrown away by a moment of madness. Take a lesson.

18/11/07 - Matrix 2, Wollaton 0 and a new player joins the team
A great game this week, well battled by both sides. Wollaton were all over us for first 10 minutes and pushed us into a penalty. A truly outstanding save from Sinbad the cat kept the scoreline flat and within a minute, we broke away and scored through m.o.m. Greg.
It got a bit naughty and Terry Smith caught a nice right hook of ex-matrix player Fragola splitting his eye, but this just made him even better. Wollaton (who had 5 ex-matrix players on the field) played well but ultimately, we were just too strong for them .... fair result
On top this great result, we also announce a new signing
Defender Thomas Mckirdy
Thomas has moved up from the south [essex] and has landed in the Hive. Thomas is a very good player and it won’t be long before he breaks into the team
Welcome to the Hive Thomas, always good to get another Bee.
Finally, Greg has now taken the lead in the Golden Boot league.

11/11/07 - A mark of respect, new signing and a 6-1 win for the Bees
Both teams shared a one minute silence in respect of the 11/11 remembrance. It was a touching display and observed well by the teams and spectators.
New signing Danny Gal joined the Bees this week. He made his debut with 20 minutes to go in the second half. He had a good run and looked comfortable on the ball, helping us deliver our 6-1 defeat to Linby M.W.
It was a cracking game, both teams playing passionately, but the mighty Bees ultimately taking the points. Check out the other photos here

04/11/07 - Old guard to the rescue to help with 2-1 win
Saturday started with frustration as we were short of players due to being let down at short notice.
Veteran Matrixgradee’s Sammy Hamilton, Chris Browne and Sean Collingston with a tremendous 21 years joint tenure at the club, stepped in to save the day.
They were very well received and all played had a great game.
Well done lads and thanks for the rescue!!
